NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

NSS stands for National Service Scheme. It is a government-sponsored program in India that aims to promote community service, social responsibility, and national integration among students.

NSS was launched in 1969 by the Government of India to commemorate the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi. The scheme is administered by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Objectives of NSS:

1. To promote community service and social responsibility among students.

2. To foster national integration and social harmony.

3. To develop personality and leadership skills among students.

4. To promote environmental conservation and sustainability.

5. To provide opportunities for students to engage in community service and social work.

 Activities of NSS:

1. Community service: NSS volunteers engage in community service activities such as cleaning, tree plantation, and helping the elderly.

2. Social work: NSS volunteers participate in social work activities such as blood donation, disaster relief, and health awareness campaigns.

3. Environmental conservation: NSS volunteers engage in environmental conservation activities such as tree plantation, waste management, and conservation of natural resources.

4. Leadership development: NSS provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through training and workshops.

5. Cultural exchange: NSS promotes cultural exchange and national integration through cultural programs and activities.
